Romania’s television is preparing a feature documentary based on Romanian-Armenian writer Varujan Vosganian’s novel “Book of Whispers”.

The film will also be about the creation of the book on the Armenian Genocide, the real heroes and the environment. The author of the novel is Doyna Jacob, and the role of the main character Karapet Vosganian is played by well-known actor Sorin Francu, as reported by “ArmenPress”’s correspondent from Romania.

The Jewish version of Varujan Vosganian’s novel “Book of Whispers” was presented in Tel-Aviv and Jerusalem on October 11-12. The novel about the Armenian Genocide was released in June 2012, translated by Ani Shilon and published by Hakibuts Hameukhad publishing house.

The October 11 book presentation was held at Tsomet Sfarim Library of Tel-Aviv with the participation of Director of the Institute of Romanian Culture in Tel-Aviv Gina Pana, RA Ambassador to Romania Edward Josiper, former member of the Knesset Colet Avital, President of the Union of Writers of Israel Hertzel Hacac, the publishing house’s correspondent Avrram Cantor, poet Riri Silvia Manor, correspondent for Haaretz Daily Josi Sarid, translator Ani Shilon and the book’s editor Anita Perry Sela.

“This book deserves to be presented for a Nobel Literature Prize by all writers around the world. The writer was also able to create a classic, truthful literary work and give startling evidence of the sufferings and genocide of the Armenian people. Such an award will make the world feel remorse for this catastrophe and will contribute to the recognition of this horrible crime,” mentioned Hertzel Hacac.

The next day, the book was presented at the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was expected to attend the event, but the death of Patriarch Torgom at the same hour changed his plans.

Israel received the novel so warmly that it was published twice in the course of three months. Varujan Vosganian’s novel was also praised by Israeli media. The “Book of Whispers” is a rare masterpiece and one of the valuable works in world literature,” Haaretz Daily had written in the summer.

In 2009, the “Book of Whispers” was published in Romanian, after which it was released in Italian and Spanish and has been internationally claimed to this day.

The Armenian version of the novel was released in Yerevan in April 2012, and the French, Swedish, Bulgarian and German versions are expected to be released in 2013.

The novel has become a headache for the Turkish authorities, which are trying to stand in the way of the novel’s translation and dissemination. The Turkish Embassy inRomania sent a letter of protest to the Romanian government when one of the museums ofBucharest organized a meeting with Varujan Vosganian to discuss the “Book of Whispers” on September 21, 2012. In 2009,Ankara officially tried to prevent the publication of the Romanian version.
